Seamer Community Speed Watch (CSW) At the end of 2024 the village members of Seamer CSW received the following message from Chief Constable Jo Shiner (Sussex Police) who is the Roads Policing Lead for the National Police Chiefs’ Council. “My thanks extend to all involved in the CSW scheme from yourselves as the public volunteers monitoring the roads, capturing the offences and sending them in, to our Police Volunteers who provide a lot of assistance to me in setting up and running the scheme day-to-day and to our Police Officers, PCSOs and Specials who provide support to their local communities. We are currently running between 85-90 groups that have registered with the scheme and around a third to a half of them are active at any one time. For those who would like to know, the overall contribution from Community Speed Watch groups across North Yorkshire in 2024 is as follows: Number of vehicles monitored – 100,988 Number of Deployments completed – 722 Number of Offences Processed – 3728 Letter 1 – 3473 Letter 2 – 229 3rd Offences – 26 The purpose of CSW is to remind drivers of the consequences of excess speed on local communities by police sending speed education letters to offenders rather than penalising them with courses, fines or points. 3rd time offenders can expect a visit from the police to provide a firmer education. As can be seen from the figures less than 1% of first time offenders reach this threshold.
